The first Gypsy Swing Soirée for 2024 will be on Saturday 10th, February at 2 pm with the Cameron Jones Trio joined by special guest Sol Grimshaw from the UK.
Born on the Isle of Wight, Sol Grimshaw grew up surrounded by diverse musical influences. He learned guitar at seven and piano at eight, was mentored by a musical family, and embraced early jazz, folk, and classical genres.
Influenced by his father's love for early jazz and Hawaiian music and captivated by Django Reinhardt, Sol committed to a musical career. Studying jazz guitar at the Purcell School at 14 and later pursued a 4-year degree at the Guildhall School.
Since graduating with First Class honours, Sol has immersed himself in London’s early jazz and gypsy jazz scenes and established a stellar reputation, playing at renowned venues and collaborating with notable musicians, including members of the London Django Collective.
Line up: Sol Grimshaw, Cameron Jones & Joseph Zarb on guitars and Oscar Peterson on bass.
The format for the afternoon will be two 45-minute sets of music followed by an acoustic gypsy jazz jam open to all. Bring your instruments. Tea, coffee, and snacks are available. Or you can bring your own. Children under 16 are FREE but must be accompanied by an adult.
