Habitat suitability and survey methods for threatened frogs and reptiles south-east of Melbourne
Event description
Join ECA Vic for a workshop on habitat suitability and survey methods for threatened frogs and reptiles south-east of Melbourne!
Hosted by Craig Cleeland, Jules Farquhar, David De Angelis and landholder Patricia Macwhirter, this workshop will update your knowledge on what constitutes potentially suitable habitat for rare and threatened reptiles and frogs, and includes an exploration of an expanded suite of survey methods that are improving detection. Taking place south-east of Melbourne, information relevant to the Glossy Grass Skink, Tussock Skink, Swamp Skink, toadlets (Pseudophryne spp.) and Growling Grass Frog will be discussed more broadly.
Methods that will be covered include the Camera Overhead Augmented Temperature (COAT) technique for detecting reptiles, terrestrial funnel traps with drift fences, setting up roof tiles as artificial shelters, and visual and acoustic surveys for frogs.
The workshop will be of particular value for ecologists, practitioners and land managers who have an interest in improving survey efficacy and their understanding of habitat preferences for threatened reptiles and frogs in southern Victoria.
