    HAEWAI LOCAL FOOD FESTIVAL – dinner to fund our food forest

    Sat 2 Mar 2024 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
    Houghton Valley Community Hall, 80 Houghton Bay Road, Houghton Bay

    We can’t wait to share beautiful kai from our ngāhere and local mārakai with you! Come and join a local food celebration in our Community Hall and finish off Local Food Week in style. It will be an evening meal, but early enough if you would like to bring your children. The meal will include locally grown and foraged ingredients as well as some from not far away. We have another wonderful meal lined up, created by Leone and our Seeds-to-Feeds team, including:

    • Foraged salad, bread, preserves, dips;
    • Panzanella, vegetable tarts, roast vegetables;
    • Fruit and vegetable-based cakes and desserts;
    • Drinks from the wild South Coast.

    All food will be vegetarian with vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options. Please sign up soon so that we have a good idea of the numbers leading up to the event. You also have the option of buying a meal for someone in the community.  Bookings are koha-based, we recommend $20 for an adult and $10 for a child over ten to cover the meal. Children under ten are free and aren't included in the ticketing numbers as they probably won't sit down for very long! Any extra you give will cover the meal for someone else. Whichever way we would love to have you join us, if you would like to donate some time, or help out with the event rather than give monetary koha, please let us know.  Be sure, you will get a fabulous meal and can spend an evening with friendly people! Funds raised will go towards a local food forest (with some of it for our fantastic Seeds-to-Feeds organisers), and will be held in trust by the Houghton Valley Progressive Association.
