HAND CARVING WITH HAPE KIDDLE

Time: 10am - 4pm (with a lunch break during the course of the day)

Age: 12-17 years
This two-day workshop is for youth between the ages of 12-17 years and will introduce participants to the basics of wood carving by hand.
Hape Kiddle is a local well-known wood hand carver and sculptor who is highly regarded for his work. One of his most notable sculptures, the world's largest Murray Cod statue, is on permanent display in the National Museum of Australia in Canberra.
Through the wood carving process, Hape will teach participants basic hand carving techniques and offer his highly knowledgeable understanding of reductive sculpture, as well as the material language between different types of wood and design principles and philosophies, whilst also engaging with the process through informed storytelling and emotional connection.
All materials for this workshop will be supplied. Limited places available.
