Hand Embroidery Performance - Demonstration
Event description
Join Studio PCL for their installation piece 'Precious Matters' presented in Rathdowne Village at the boutique of independent labels Robyn Black and Booker & Co. during Melbourne Design Week. The installation focusses on the role of non-virgin materials used during the process of creation of considered design objects and the values placed on raw materials used in daily life.
Applying the traditional techniques of quilting, patchwork and hand embroidery, Studio PCL re-imagines the occasional chair to create an object that blurs the lines between form and function, while locally produced fashion garments are given a 'hand' touch, focussing on contemporary forms of heritage craft.
An in-store hand embroidery 'performance' demonstration will be held in conjunction with the installation. Phong will be working live in-store, hand embroidering a Robyn Black Melbourne garment. Drop in through out the day to observe, ask, share and try your 'Hand' at some embroidery. This event will allow the community to further engage with the designer, their work and share knowledge.
