Calling all past, present and future participants, carers and volunteers - it's time to register for our first event of the 2026/27 season.
All participants, carers and volunteers (yes even the committee/organisers) will need to pre-register, not just turn up on the day.
For organisational purposes, registration for participants and carers will close at 5pm on Thursday October 29th 2026.
Preregistration helps us keep an eye on volunteer to surfer ratios for safety and helps us with catering. It also allows us to quickly and easily communicate with all attendees if we need to make last minute changes.
Sign in from 8:15am, event debrief and hit the water at 9am. Sausage sizzle lunch and presentation 12ish. (Subject to change based on weather conditions and numbers...we may start/finish slightly outside these times).
FAQs
- Do I really have to register before each event?
Yes.
Everyone (even the organisers) need to register for each event. This helps us keep an eye on numbers to make sure we have enough volunteers for the number of participants, let the caterers know how many people to cater to, and keep the sign in process on the day much simpler. There will be a sign in sheet that will have all the details from the registration so people can be 'ticked off' as they arrive rather than having to collect all the details on the day. It also makes it easier for us to contact you if we need to give information about the event (eg cancellations) as we can send an email directly to everyone who has registered.
- Do I need to know how to surf?
Not at all - all teams are led by highly trained and experienced team leaders (red shirts) who will provide guidance throughout the event.
- Do I have to get in the water if I am a carer?
Not at all - as a carer (grey shirt) you are welcome to get in the water with the participant (yellow shirt) but there is no obligation to do so. Once you give any handover information to the team leader, you can wait on the beach until the participant completes their turn.
- What does it cost to attend?
There is no cost to attend, however donations are always welcome to help us continue providing these free events. You can also become a financial member of the Disabled Surfers Association of Australia but this is not compulsory. Please send us a message if you would like further information about this.
- Are events ever cancelled?
Yes - but only in cases of extreme weather or other adverse conditions. We will always advise you of cancellations as soon as possible via email (hence the request to pre-register) and social media.
- What do all the different coloured rashies mean?
Green Shirt - Beach Marshalls. They ensure the overall events of the day run as smoothly as possible.
Red Shirt - Team Leaders. They will lead their team of volunteers, demonstrate safe lifting techniques, how to support the participant and choose which breaking wave to ride.
Pink Shirt - Beach Coordinators. They will be responsible for a corridor, letting the participants know when it's their turn, and help relay information between the participant, carer and team leader.
Blue Shirt - Volunteers. They can fulfil a number of roles in and out of the water from set up to pack up. This can include unpacking/repacking the trailer, setting up the tents, signing people in at the registration table, sorting rashies, being in the water to help the participants, helping participants in wheelchairs to and from the beach, photography, and lots more!
Yellow Shirt - Participants.
Grey Shirt - Primary Carers. A carer must remain with their participant at all times, or on the beach close by during the participants turn.
