Hannaka is an Australian world music artist journeying with what is native, healing and life-giving, moving and powerful. Much travel, contemplation and study has crystallised in this soul the blessed wonder of existence. Hannaka shares this in soaring howls, hypnotic vocal layers and delicate instrumentation. Singing in Creole, French, Spanish and English, Hannaka has gathered a diverse mix of musicians delivering contemplative works built from spirited West African rhythms, delicate Bossa Nova and blissed out Beach Blues. Known for her ability to render authenticity between herself and her audiences, this is a rare bird that you have not seen the likes of before.
Treasure You Single Release
Treasure You is the long awaited collaboration between vocalist Hannaka and composer Nataesh Koham, also known as Daniel Fournier. Daniel tragically left us in March 2023 after an exceptional career as a composer, professor and audio engineer, residing in his beloved apartment in West End Brisbane. He was effortlessly generous and his collaborative work with Hannaka will be forever cherished.
“At the time of writing the lyrics, I did not fully understand and appreciate what they would later come to mean as a mother and also as someone mourning the loss of my dear friend and collaborator, Daniel,” Hannaka recounts.
Daniel was infamous on the West End scene, known for his regular appearance at Blackstar Coffee house, where they pair met, and where many other of Daniel’s collaborations burgeoned out of. Daniel was not only one of the most inspired composers among us, he also had an enduring heart for community and connection, and shared his music as such.
“Treasure You” is a gentle reminder to value the immense beauty found within the weaving of our lives, the still moments of timeless connection available like dew on brand new morns. An urging not to take for granted how precious we can be to one another.
