Hantu + Sealovers Lookout at Franks Wild Years
Event description
Hantu is the visionary project of Naarm based, Malaysian-Australian ethnomusicologist Isobel D’Cruz Barnes. Drawing on Barnes’ diverse background in Western and Indian classical music, Hantu’s compositions feature a rich array of field recordings, flute, bass, zither, and synths, blending spiritual jazz with elements of post-minimalism.
Hantu’s live performances are metamorphic, blending diverse influences into a cohesive, evocative whole. This potent fusion creates an immersive sonic experience that transcends cultural boundaries, inviting listeners into a realm where tradition meets innovation.
Expect a performance that eschews borders, genres, and expectations, where each note resonates with depth and meaning, showcasing Barnes’ mastery of classically trained musical technique and creative exploration.
Hantu is joined by Sealovers Lookout, an instrumental project by Jake Core (Soda Eaves, Blue Divers).
