Harakeke-Bracelet making workshop
Description
Discover the art of raranga (Māori weaving) in this hands-on workshop at Glen Innes Library. Participants will create their own unique harakeke bracelet while learning about this treasured natural resource and its importance in Māori culture.
Choose from a selection of bracelet patterns and work with both natural and specially treated harakeke, providing beautiful colour contrasts for your finished piece. Sample designs will be available to inspire your creativity.
This workshop offers more than just a craft activity. Participants will gain an introduction to harakeke, learn about tikanga Māori in practice, and experience the values of whanaungatanga through shared learning and creativity. The session also supports literacy and numeracy skills while producing a meaningful handmade taonga (gift) to take home.
This is a free event suitable for adults.
Children are welcome when accompanied by a parent or caregiver, as some tools used during the workshop require adult supervision.
