Harakeke - Putiputi

Drop in to see weaver Vicky King during the Hauora Day at Hakatere Marae (on between 11am - 2.30pm) to learn about harakeke (flax) and have a go at weaving your own putiputi (flowers).

There will also be visits to the pā harakeke to look closely at the harakeke plants, learn how they grow, learn about the different varieties of harakeke and their uses plus discover more about the tikanga and care involved in harvesting.

This is a great hands-on spring activity suitable for beginners. Vicky is a friendly, relaxed, patient teacher. Stay for as long as you need to ask your questions, learn about harakeke and weave a flower or two, then visit the other stalls at the hauora day or grab some of the free kai on offer.

All materials and instruction are provided, and there is no cost to participate.
