Harakeke Wānanga - Kete Whakairo
Event description
In this two day workshop with Vicky King from South Canterbury, participants will learn to use colour to form a kete whakairo/ patterned bag.
There will be a choice of learning to make the red/black putiputi design as pictured above or the green pattern, known as inanga after the whitebait, pictured below.
You will need to have been to a flaxweaving wānanga before, so you know how to harvest and prepare your flax and the basics of under and over weaving.
Participants will need to cut and prepare their flax prior to the wānanga. Specifics of what to prepare and bring for both kete options will be provided after you've registered. Any questions just contact us to ask.
Places are limited to 12, so book in quick. BYO lunch both days.
This event is part of the Keep Learning Mid Canterbury programme and is open to anyone. The Harakeke Wānanga have been made possible thanks to funding from the Creative Communities Scheme.
