Event description

Join us at "It's Still A Secret" in South Brisbane on September 30, 2023, for an evening that celebrates the rich tapestry of music and heritage. From 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM, experience the harmonious melodies and narratives brought to life by The Gregorio, LAIK, KAIROS KIN, and JAMIESHA

The Gregorio

The Gregorio is the solo project of Regő Szabolcs Józsa (Greg), a Brisbane-based Hungarian producer and musician. He delivers tunes that blur the line between compelling pop and experimental music using a combination of both English and Hungarian lyrics to shape stories often told from unconventional angles.

A self-described “music gremlin”, The Gregorio started producing because of a desire to make music independently, and explore the path of expression that was uncompromising when it came to telling the stories that resonate on a deeper level. That being said, Regő has a way of connecting with his fans that is both hilarious and light-hearted, acknowledging the heightened elements of self-promotion that is inevitable on social media.

2019 saw the release of his EP Binary, an explosion of in-depth storytelling and memorable electronic beats jam-packed into 6 tasty, bite-sized tracks.

Regő attended the QUT Bachelor of Music program, learning Music and Sound Production in the state-of-the-art studios and graduated in 2019 with Distinction. Learning in that environment kick-started the beginnings of The Gregorio, a formidable artist/producer and one to look out for in the Brisbane electronic scene.

LAIK

Hannah Macklin (vocals, keys) and Brandon Mamata (guitar, vocals) come together as LAIK (a word meaning “holiday” or “play”) to create freeform approaches to jazz, r&b, alt-pop, Afrobeat and more, worked together with programmed beats and improvisation.

JAMIESHA

Jamiesha is a dynamic and powerful band that draws inspiration from their Indigenous roots in the Barkindji nation and Western Samoa, and their music is a celebration of culture, pride, and protest. Based in Brisbane, their original music is a unique fusion of pop, rock, hip hop, and soul, reflecting the diverse and colourful nature of their heritage.

With a hippy vibe and a fierce dedication to their craft, Jamiesha's music is both optimistic and passionate, spreading a message of love and inspiration to all who listen. Their songs are infused with the strength and bravery of their culture, and their lyrics speak to the struggles and triumphs of Indigenous communities everywhere.

From the upbeat rhythms of their hip hop songs to the soulful melodies of their ballads, Jamiesha's music is an expression of their identity and their determination to make a positive impact on the world. With their powerful and inspirational performances, the band is a force to be reckoned with, inspiring audiences to embrace their own heritage and to stand up for what they believe in.

They deliver a message of hope and resilience that is both timely and timeless. With their unique blend of musical styles and their fierce dedication to their craft, Jamiesha is a band that is sure to leave a lasting impression on audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

KAIROS KIN

Blue MC + + + Kazm = KAIROS KIN

KAIROS: a time when conditions are right for the accomplishment of a crucial action : the opportune and decisive moment.

KIN: family

Drawing on a range of genres including dub, hip-hop, dance-hall, house, electro, breaks, techno & pop, these two accomplished rappers are focused on elevated lyrics and vocal harmonies. Joining forces in 2020 Kairos Kin have brought together two powerhouse song-writers and combined their ethereal voices over bass heavy beats and grooves.

Terry Cassels aka Kazm is an indigenous Australian artist and frontman for Dubmarine 2006-2018. The Gungalu spirit-singer crosses ancient culture into the modern contemporary sphere and pushes his art toward the space age!

Marisa Lock aka Blue MC is an Australian female rapper and singer who co-fronted The Potbelleez 2004-2012. She relocated to Berlin (Germany), performing in clubs and making collaborative recordings across multiple genres from 2013-2018. Returning to her hometown of Brisbane in 2019, the discovery of her other-worldly connection with Kazm initiated the inspired collaboration that became Kairos Kin.
