Rhythm of Renewal

Event description

Join us for an unforgettable evening of film, music, and supporting a greener future!

ℹ️ About the Event

We're excited to invite you to our fundraiser event, where all proceeds will go towards supporting our tree planting efforts for 2024. The highlight of the night is the screening of the captivating documentary Mammung (43min).

🎥 About "Mammung the Film"

Around 10,000 years ago, Western Australia experienced rapid sea-level rise. The indigenous Noongar people adapted to the loss of almost 30% of their land as the population moved inland ahead of a 'slow-moving tsunami.' "Mammung the Film" delves into the living memory that Noongar people hold of this event. It follows Dr Noel Nannup in recalling the significance of places now below the sea and explaining the process of change that indigenous people endured through the narrative dreaming story of MAMMUNG the whale.

Indigenous cultures in Australia are one of the very few who have a living memory of a period of climatic change that rivals what we are seeing today. "Mammung the Film" challenges us all to ask: Can we learn to understand and value this rich body of knowledge as we too adapt to a changing climate? And what awaits us if we don't?

🎵 Entertainment: Get ready to groove with performances by two incredible bands

  • 🎸 The Nomadics: Award-winning and celebrated festival favorites, including performances at Fairbridge Festival, Gascoyne Travelling Arts Festival, and touring with The Waifs. Bec Schofield & Dave Mann imbibe stories from the heart of Australia as they traverse the country in their off-grid tiny house by road and sea, singing them out with deep love and connection. Links to The Nomadics music, vids & more
  • 🥁 Melkora: A newly formed 3-piece band that brings together a unique blend of world music, classical, jazz, blues, and other genres. Camille Lalanne (France) on cello, Matt Whitton (Perth, Australia) on kora, and Leo Ollivier (France) on dobro guitar and vocals create a captivating soundscape that transports listeners on a global journey.
