Harms Industry: the Arms Trade and Commercial Determinants of Health

The global arms trade profits from predictable and widespread harm to people and the planet. Can a public health lens help limit these harms, and counterbalance the industry's corporate influence?

Just like tobacco, processed food and other harmful industries, the arms trade uses commercial strategies to subvert public health agendas and shape public discourse. As conflicts increase, and global military spending surges, a Commercial Determinants of Health framework can reveal the direct and systemic harms of the arms trade - and provide opportunities for health professionals to take preventative action.
