Harp Island 2025 Harp Concert
Event description
Now in its 20th year, Harp Island is a residential weekend of harp activities organised by the Harp Society of Tasmania. Participants take part in a 3-day conference of all things harp, receiving expert musical tuition and participating in a variety of workshops.
The concert is the culmination of this weekend. It will feature a wide array of music - solos, ensembles, classical and contemporary - performed by Harp Island participants and include a short performance by this year's international tutor, Heather Downie.
Heather Downie is the founder of How To Harp and the Principal Scottish Harp Tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Renowned for her lever harp skills in traditional Scottish music, particularly for her intricate lever work, Heather merges her love of lever harp and traditional music with innovative approaches using pedal harp & electric harp, plus a huge range of effects & modern music production technology. Her roots will always be in Scottish traditional music but this is combined with many other genres including classical, pop and electronica.
Heather's visit is made possible by generous sponsorship from Jakez François, Camac Harps, France.
