Harvesting Justice: Cultivating a Future for DC Schools
Event description
Harvesting Justice: Cultivating a Future for DC Schools Thursday, July 10th | 6:00–8:00 PM
True Reformer Building | 1200 U Street NW, Washington, DC
Schools are where the future takes root.
In these spaces, young minds are cultivated—not only to pass tests, but also to discover who they are, what they’re capable of, and how they’ll contribute to a more just and innovative world.
But too often, schools are treated as crisis response centers—scrambling for quick fixes, layering on band-aids, and chasing metrics that overlook the brilliance sitting in our classrooms. Are we truly leading our youth toward their highest potential?
If we are serious about changing the future of D.C., we must begin by harvesting justice in our schools—ensuring that every child, no matter their race, language, zip code, or income, has access to the resources, relationships, and respect they need to thrive.
The evening will be inspiring, filled with connection, visioning, and movement-building in the heart of the city. This social gathering will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres, vibrant conversation, and powerful voices committed to justice in education.
We’re honored to welcome Tanji Reed Marshall, nationally recognized speaker, author, and education expert, whose groundbreaking work continues to shape the future of equity in schools.
You’ll also hear from a phenomenal panelist rooted in D.C., bringing deep insight and unwavering love for the city’s youth.
Come hungry for food, community, and the future we’re building together.
Panelists:
Mayra Cruz – Award-winning school leader and co-founder of The Canizales Group, dedicated to preparing Latino/x principals to lead excellent, antiracist dual language schools.

Brittany Mobley – Public defender and co-founder of the Black Public Defender Association, fiercely dedicated to dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline through legal advocacy.
