Keynote Snapshot

Professor Ngātai Taepa is a leading contemporary Māori artist whose work revitalises indigenous narratives through kōwhaiwhai and contemporary expression. Beyond his contributions to the art world, Ngatai has been instrumental in supporting the revitalisation of Puanga within the Waiwhetū community, ensuring that the ahi throughout the year – each marking a time of renewal and wellbeing – are upheld and strengthened.

A proud raukura, Te Wehi Wright brings deep expertise in Māori culture, strategy, and building cultural capital. With experience working at Tuaropaki Trust and Te Amokura, he has led successful projects that amplify cultural identity and create lasting impact.

Hinerapa Rupuha is CEO of Maiangi and a passionate advocate for revitalising te reo and tikanga Māori. As an educator and a trainee navigator under the guidance of Jack Thatcher, a leader in waka revival, Hinerapa is preparing for a major milestone: a navigation test from Aotearoa to Samoa, guided by ancestral methods of reading the stars, ocean swells, and natural signs. She is deeply committed to preserving and honoring the knowledge and legacies of our tīpuna.

Peter Cowan is a world-class Para va’a athlete. Peter has won two golds and a silver at the world waka ama champs, and in 2024, won silver at the ICF Paracanoe World Champs and bronze in the Men’s 200m VL3 at the Paris Paralympics Games.

Te Kahu Rolleston is a National Poetry Slam champion and former participant in The Banff Centre’s Indigenous Writing Programme. Te Kahu Rolleston weaves together the energy of kapa haka and the sharpness of battle rap to create poetry that challenges, inspires, and connects.
