Hate speech and hate crime in Australia - an overview, legislation and how it deals with antisemitism and misogyny;

The first session, will be held on 6 March 10.30-12.30AEDT, and delivered by Prof Katharine Gelber, the Head of the Political Science and International Studies School at the University of Queensland. Prof Gelber is a leading expert in hate speech and vilification. She has published widely on various aspects of the field, and in recent years has written of her own family history of Nazi persecution.

The NCJWA has developed a three-part training series for Jewish Australian women to build knowledge and skills around identifying and responding to prejudice, discrimination and hate, to interrogate current experiences of antisemitism in Australia and online, and to understand how sexism and misogyny manifest for Jewish women.

Held first Sunday morning in March, April and May, this training will be delivered by experts in the field, and will be an interactive training experience. For those attending all three sessions, you will receive a certificate of participation.

2. Reporting of and recourse for vilification and discrimination – what are my rights and responsibilities, and what do I do if I experience it? - Caron Menashe, Queensland Human Rights Commission, and Julie Nathan, Research Director, Executive Council of Australian Jewry

3. Misogyny and antisemitism? Do Jewish women experience antisemitism in gendered ways? - Dr Shannon Zimmerman, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Social and Global Studies Centre at RMIT University, and Prof Lesley Klaff, Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and Editor-in-Chief Journal of Contemporary Antisemitism
