Event description

After many months of planning and careful thought we are ready to open our doors, Haven is proud to present our opening night with: Human Movement, DJ PGZ, Jai Piccone, Asha Franco & Wax Addicts

Haven positions itself as a high quality temporary venue where people can celebrate music and connect with their community before the building is inevitably knocked down. The entire space is built entirely with salvaged materials; a nod to the space's transient nature. The impermanence of the space becomes part of its power, building urgency and turning each night of unique programming into a rarity.

The venues story is also shaped by the history of the building. An old Woolworths site now being transformed into a venue for culture. By doing this we are turning the commercial into the cultural and embodying our grassroots communal spirit. Pairing one of Australia's most ambitious venue fit outs by Buckworth & Co, with an incredible Danley Sound Labs system; setup with upmost care by Hugo at Sound is Everything, light design by Tony Funicello and an incredible array of artists we cannot wait to share our vision with you all.

Our evening starts on the newly renovated terrace with Wax Addicts and the Public Address System and moves into the main room after sunset. Tickets are limited and expected to move quickly. Info on the artists below.

Lebanese-Australian artist Human Movement (aka Edward Macdonald) has gained widespread recognition for his unique brand of forward thinking dance music, informed by a love of hard-edged UK Garage, 90’s House and old school Rave. The Eora (Sydney) based artist, producer and DJ has amassed a cult following as well as significant tastemaker praise including co-sign nods from Roza Terenzi, Amaliah, DJ Seinfeld, Spray, Logic1000, Ciel, Eris Drew, Or:la, Daniel Avery & more. Following breakthrough EPs and vast experience on the live front, support has been cemented with accolades at BBC1 including claiming a Future Dance ‘Track ID’ and Peak Time Mix, plus spins across Boiler Room, RINSE FM, Mixmag Cover Mix, and tapped in for official remixes by French rising star Me & George, Scottish trailblazers t e s t p r e s s and Naarm’s Pretty Girl.

DJ PGZ is a Gunai/Kurnai & Yorta Yorta, artist, DJ and producer shaping a bold new sound in Australian dance music. Drawing from underground club cultures worldwide, he honours the Black and Brown pioneers of dance music while carving space for the next generation of First Nations artists. His sound fuses hard techno, bass-heavy syncopations, and global club styles, thriving on the duality of total control and complete abandon to fuel unfiltered freedom of movement. A fixture of the national festival circuit, DJ PGZ has held his place at just about every stage from Meredith Music Festival to Dekmantel Naarm, with international headlines in Singapore and Hanoi. In 2025, he kicks off the year with Come Round, a collaborative EP with Yikes on Butter Sessions, alongside a string of remixes and sets, continuing to break barriers and move bodies where dance serves as a unifying force of (re)connection.

As a member of the globally-renowned band Tora, Jai’s opportunities to explore his love of faster, more club-orientated music have been fleeting. However, over the last few months, the Australian artist (via Berlin, Amsterdam and now Barcelona) has experienced his most productive writing window in memory, culminating in a bundle of tasteful dance. Jais projects also include new project DJ Sugarush as well as curating the artist bookings at Haven.

Asha Franco is a Northern Rivers-based DJ, vocal artist, and actor known for her musical versatility, enriched by her diverse cultural lineage—encompassing Jewish, African, and Middle Eastern heritage—her roots weaving rich tapestries within the realm of her music.

Starting with a strong foundation in jazz, she now embraces a wide range of genres from around the world, showcasing her passion for music through her eclectic selections, spanning from jazz fusion to hip-hop, electronic to dancehall, and more.

For Asha, music is a powerful form of communication, which she formerly explored through her show Earth Tones on Skylab Radio while based in Melbourne.
