Event description

Haven Presents: Loods, Jai Piccone, Shane.MOV, & Dan Muz

Welcoming Loods to Haven Byron Bay for a night of groovy jacking house with support from Jai Piccone, Shane.MOV, & Dan Muz.

Haven positions itself as a high quality temporary venue where people can celebrate music and connect with their community before the building is inevitably redeveloped. The entire space is built entirely with salvaged materials; a nod to the space's transient nature. The impermanence of the space becomes part of its power, building urgency and turning each night of unique programming into a rarity.

The venues story is also shaped by the history of the building. An old Woolworths site now being transformed into a venue for culture. By doing this we are turning the commercial into the cultural and embodying our grassroots communal spirit. Pairing one of Australia's most ambitious venue fit outs by Buckworth & Co, with an incredible Danley Sound Labs system; setup with upmost care by Hugo at Sound is Everything, light design by Tony Funicello and an incredible array of artists we cannot wait to share our vision with you all.

Loods

Raised in the Steel City, aka the coastal, industrial Australian town of Newcastle, Loods is an understated character with a fun, raw take on dance music.

Since relocating to London in 2018, Loods has delivered a string of high-impact releases across a range of labels. These include three records on longtime friend Mall Grab’s Steel City Dance Discs label, summer anthem 'Walking Away' on Classic Music Company (Annie Mac's Hottest Record), a collaborative project with dance music icon A-Trak, peak-time Italo burner 'Pure Bliss Meltdown' (Pete Tong's Essential New Tune), the Gummi EP on Patrick Topping's Trick Label, and 'Riviera' on Club Sweat, an ode to noughties house that heavily frequented music ID forums prior to its release.

All of this set against the backdrop of extensive touring throughout the UK, Europe and Australia, mixes for Rinse FM, NTS and Triple J, and numerous remixes for artists like Pete Tong, Purple Disco Machine, Flight Facilities, and plenty more. With no sign of slowing down, Loods is hard at work on his debut album, and is certainly be one to keep an eye on.

Jai Piccone

Jai Piccone is an Australian born, Barcelona and Byron Bay based producer and songwriter. Known best for his work with Australian 4 piece Tora, Jai more recently has stepped into his own with a collection of diverse house tracks.

As a member of the globally-renowned band Tora, Jai’s opportunities to explore his love of faster, more club-orientated music have been fleeting. However, over the last few months, the Australian artist (via Berlin, Amsterdam and now Barcelona) has experienced his most productive writing window in memory, culminating in a bundle of tasteful dance.

Diving into his psyche on “Make Me Understand”, Jai plucks whimsical imagery from his mind’s eye taking listeners on a prancing synth-laden trip. Vocally, he shines bright telling of strange interactions with fire and water, the words piercing through swift production. Jai doesn’t shy away from the fact that the pandemic left him feeling jaded and uninspired. In his own words, this new batch of records are “an unloading and digestion of the last three years of my life.”

Interestingly, it took him re-engaging with piano and leaning into the beauty of chord progressions to rediscover his love of songwriting. “Without the time spent learning these amazing classical pieces and appreciating the instruments themselves, I don’t think this new music would’ve ever got made.”

This is the beginning of a new era for Jai–backed by the influence of European dancefloors, a reignited passion for composition and a desire to interpret the madness of some rather strange years.

Shane.MOV

Apart from working in film as a director, Shane Crosland is the artist known as Shane.MOV (previously known as Shamus). Originally a jazz/funk drummer and instrumentalist from Maryland and Colorado, USA, he has been promoting, playing at clubs, festivals, parties, and playing in live bands for just over a decade.

Currently based in Byron Bay, Australia, he has been able to dive into the bubbling underground electronic scene, and has created a multi-faced film production/arts/music label, SONIK-INO, giving artists a voice and remaining close to the idea of inclusion. SONIK-INO collaborates closely with a number of brands and labels in Australia, as well as far and wide to create content, art, and events that are approachable for all walks of life, including as much rising talent as possible. They are also the founders of an international event, Club Motif, allowing for extended sets to let artists express their full sound capabilities.

Shane.MOV has been able to release with Donald Pump (PAF Records) and DJ WITCH, titled "Lullaby For Georges" and "Count Forwards To White". The tracks have been grouped into the compilation LP, "Lost In Transience (SOKI001)", SONIK-INO's first release, consisting of eight tracks produced by artists in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. He has recently released his first EP titled ‘Habits (Like Glue)’ featuring remixes by Nachtbraker, Minor Circuit, and Pootchy, which has also been released on SONIK-INO as SOKI003. Shane has also recently released mixes on Bangkok Community Radio, Deeprhythms curated by Echocentric Records, as well as, Hanoi Community Radio. His style is ultimately guided by the idea of space, authenticity, and depth, playfully blending an array of selections in his sets. No stranger to tension and release, Shane.MOV remains in a position to fully explore sounds both old and new, across the realms of house and techno with astral, euphoric, world, and soul influences, rooted in the Chicago, Detroit and UK underground.
