The Having a Say is a national event held each year in Geelong, Victoria. It is an opportunity for people with disability to be in the spotlight and shine, as presenters, performers, volunteers and self-advocates. It aims to give people with disabilities the opportunity to build their skills, knowledge and connections through being involved in planning and running the event.

Having a Say has been supporting people to find their voice.... to speak up, be heard and be respected - for 25 years.

It is an event where people listen to each other, not just to the speakers on stage. It is an empowering experience where people respect each other’s views and opinions and celebrate their common causes and achievements.

Competitions

Having a Say’s Got Talent (HGT)

HGT is open to people with disability to perform - sing, play an instrument, dance, drama .

only 12 people can Audition on Wednesday 28th January 2026
the winners of each category will perform during the Closing Ceremony Thur. 29th Jan. at 12.00noon – 1.15pm

Art Competition

Thanks to the sponsorship of the Victorian Senior Practitioner, the HaS Art Competition will be on again.

All the details are on Art Comp Entry Form

Original artworks (no photos) will need to be received by VALID by 30th of November 2024.

Prizes for delegates and two prizes for non-delegates.

Come & Try (C&T) Activities

Participants with a disability who are attending:

both days of the conference, have the opportunity to do TWO C&T (Come & Try activities)
only for 1 day, you will have the chance to choose ONE ‘C&T Activity’
places are limited in each C&T activity
places will go on a first in basis (book when you register for the conference)
