Haweyate Children and Youth Palestine Workshop October

You asked, and this year we're delivering!

Returning on Gadigal Land, the Haweyate Children and Youth Palestine Workshop is back.

Launched in 2023 as a groundbreaking initiative, the program began on Gadigal Land and has since expanded to major cities across Australia. Through immersive learning, storytelling, creative expression, and hands-on activities, children and young people explore Palestine's rich history, culture, traditions, and artistic heritage. More than a workshop, it is a space of belonging, identity, pride, and cultural continuity.

The program welcomes participants from all backgrounds. Sessions are delivered in English, with Arabic incorporated to strengthen cultural connection and language among Arabic-speaking participants. Alongside learning about Palestinian history, culture, and life under occupation, participants are encouraged to develop critical thinking, self-awareness, confidence, and a deeper appreciation of identity and justice.

The workshop is facilitated by Assala Sayara, a Palestinian social worker, counsellor, and educator. The program is facilitated through a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach that prioritises psychological safety, emotional wellbeing, and meaningful participation.
