Healing Theatre Pop-ups
Event description
An intimate and emergent theatre practice where self-exploration and cultural healing intertwine through embodied expression and play.
The birth of this offering was loneliness. The last few years I have been privately exploring my internality, through therapeutic process, poetry, theatre, voice, meditation, all the while seeking deep change and lasting peace, but recently on this inner journey I have stumbled upon a longing for connection, contribution and witnessing… for community!
This offering is born from a desire to come together and walk the path of metamorphosis collectively, meeting the mystery within and beyond ourselves, each-other and our culture along the way…
“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.”
bell hooks, “All About Love” (2000)
The intent is a kind of improvised self-exploration. To turn toward the experiences that are troubling or unresolved for you at the moment, to explore them a little through different practices, with the intent to gain understanding, self-empathy or insight. I am not a therapist and this is not therapy, but my hope is to create safety enough to share in the natural act of self-connection together. There will be private exploration in shared space, opportunities for witnessing, and for group explorations. Everything is invitational, nothing is expected beyond a curiosity to look inward and share from the heart.
Things I enjoy and that may influence my facilitation: improvisation, theatre games, deep ecology, theatre of the oppressed, viewpoints, artists way exercises, devising, journaling, improvisation, Chekhov technique, Butoh, Nonviolent Communication, circle sharing.
Again, the point isn’t to become a great actor or ‘perform’, but simply connect with what’s alive for you atm, perhaps connect to the beauty of our raw and unfinished self-becoming, and play.
No need to come to all, they are designed to work as individual sessions.
