Healing Together: A Systemic Approach to Treating OCD in the Perinatal Period within the Couple Diad

In this 3.5 hour workshop you will:
Understand the Impact of Perinatal OCD:
Identify the symptoms and diagnostic criteria of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in the perinatal period, distinguishing between typical perinatal anxiety and clinical OCD.
Recognize the unique challenges and risks associated with OCD during pregnancy and postpartum, including its impact on the individual, family dynamics, and infant development.
Understand the impact of OCD on the couple’s relationship and attachment bond.
Examine Systemic Approaches to Treatment:
Explore evidence-based systemic interventions for perinatal OCD, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP), and how these can be adapted for the perinatal context.
Discuss the role of family members in treatment, and understand how systemic therapy can involve partners, family members, and support networks in the healing process.
Explore evidence-based interventions in couples therapy specific to the unique challenges of individuals with OCD.
Incorporate Culturally Responsive and Trauma-Informed Practices:
Learn how to provide culturally responsive care and understand the diverse cultural, societal, and familial factors that may impact the experience of OCD in the perinatal period.
Incorporate trauma-informed practices into treatment, understanding the significance of past trauma in shaping the course and treatment of OCD during pregnancy and postpartum.
*3 hours of Continuing Education approved by the MN Board of Marriage & Family Therapy and MN Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy.* 1 hour of cultural competence.
