Associate Professor Charlie Corke

Intensive Care Specialist, renowned communication teacher and creator of ClinicalAvatar

Associate Professor Corke was one of the three founding Intensivists who established Intensive Care in Geelong. In 1991, he became Director of Intensive Care at The Geelong Hospital, now University Hospital Geelong. He later stepped down from the role to focus on a range of medical interests.

He has also been extensively involved with the College of Intensive Care Medicine, serving as an examiner and executive member since 2003, including a term as President from 2016–2018. A strong advocate for medical communication training, Associate Professor Corke was the originator of the College’s communication course.

Professor Tim Miller

TIET-UQ Chair of Data Science and Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Queensland

Professor Tim Miller was a founding co-director of the Centre for AI and Digital Ethics at the University of Melbourne. He currently holds the TIET-UQ Chair of Data Science and is Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Queensland.

His research combines machine learning, reinforcement learning, AI planning, interaction design, and cognitive science to support better decision-making. His areas of expertise include explainable AI, human-AI mixed-initiative planning, and human-centred decision support. Tim describes his mission as: “Improving the capabilities of expert decision-makers by using artificial intelligence to do the hard things.”
