Dr Melina Georgousakis
Founder & Director (FranklinWomen)

Dr Melina Georgousakis is a passionate advocate for collaboration, diversification and innovation within the health and medical research sector, as well increasing the representation of women in leadership positions, both with the aim of maximising the economic and health outcomes from research. She is the founder a social enterprise, Franklin Women, which aims to create a health and medical research sector where women thrive.

With a background in research scientist in vaccine development and policy and a strong a advocate for innovation and equality in the sciences, Melina was previous at the policy team at National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance which provides technical advice to the Australian Commonwealth Department of Health on Australia’s immunisation policies after her PhD at The Queensland Institute of Medical Research where she researched novel approaches to vaccine design and delivery.

A/Prof Alice Motion
Researcher, science communicator and producer (University of Sydney)

A/Prof Alice Motion (Williamson) is a researcher and science communicator based at School of Chemistry at The University of Sydney. Their research focuses on open science and Science Communication, Outreach, Participation and Education (SCOPE). Alice is the founder of the Breaking Good project – a citizen science project that aims to empower high school and undergraduate students to be active researchers in projects that will improve human health.

She is recognised as a leading international science communicator. In 2015, Alice was named as one of ABC RN and UNSW's Top 5 Under 40 in recognition of their passion for sharing science stories. Alice was the RACI Nyholm Lecturer for 2017/18 and a finalist in the 2017 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Early Career Award for Public Engagement with Science. Alice is the co-host of the ABC Science podcast, Dear Science, and was the host of a weekly science slot on FBi Radio's breakfast show from 2015-2021.

A/Prof Robert Gorkin
Founder of Eudaemon and Co-Director (Impact, Innovation and Partnerships) at WSU

Robert Gorkin is a Professor in the Translational Health Research Institute at Western Sydney University. He has experience across Drug Development, Clinical Diagnostics, Smart Materials, Machine learning/AI, 3D-4D-BioPrinting, Robotics, drones/UAVs, Internet of Things (IoT), and Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (VR/AR/XR), among other interests.

Robert brings experience working on five continents with world-class institutes and companies ranging from international corporations to non-for-profits. His track record includes direct involvement in innovative technologies leading to investment, products, sales, and community benefits, contributing to over 100 publications and proceedings, and securing international grants and funding ($XXM in last 5 years) awarded from both academic and commercial positions.

Robert continues to progress both research and business interests with a collaborative spirit to encourage the next generation of researchers and entrepreneurs. Robert is CEO of Eudaemon Technologies, a scale-up company bringing the next generation condom through clinical trials, or actively volunteering with Surf Lifesaving and Landcare.
