Join us for the next session in our Healthy Edible Garden Series, where we focus on Seed Saving.

This workshop will explore the value of saving local seeds—focusing on annual vegetable plants—as a strategy for enhancing biodiversity and resilience. It will also guide participants through key steps for successful seed saving, including harvesting, cleaning, and drying seeds.

In addition, the workshop will offer practical tips on seed storage to maintain viability over time. Participants will learn how to:

Choose appropriate containers (e.g. glass jars, paper envelopes)
Label seeds clearly with plant name and harvest date
Store seeds in cool, dry, and dark conditions
Monitor for pests and moisture to prevent spoilage

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced gardener, this session will equip you with the knowledge to build a resilient seed collection tailored to your local environment.

This workshop will involve demonstrations and practical activities that will be held in our small-space demonstration garden. Please wear covered shoes, sunscreen and a hat.

Who: This workshop is provided free to residents of the Inner West local government area. This is presented by the Inner West Green Living Centre, an initiative of Inner West Council and as numbers are limited, the workshop gives preference to residents of Inner West Council area. Search by address at Find Your Local Council - Office of Local Government NSW website to find your local government area, if you're unsure. Proof of residential address will be required. Please join the waitlist if you live outside the area and we will let you know if a spot becomes available.

Accessibility: If you have any access or support requirements in order to participate fully please let us know. The site is accessible via paved pathways with a slight slope from street to buildings.
