Healthy Koala Habitats - Low Chemical Management of Open Forest Workshop

Join us for a workshop exploring low chemical approaches to manage open forest koala habitat in Northern NSW! We will explore manual techniques, fire management and how koalas benefit from these approaches to open forest management.
The day will involve short talks, catered morning tea and lunch, and walks around Billen Cliffs to look at sites that have been managed by cultural fire and low chem techniques.
Low chemical techniques will be presented by Tristan Mules of Holistic Habitats, Tristan is an experienced bush regenerator with a special focus on using minimal chemicals.
Anastasia Guise of Billen Cliffs will explain the history and future plans of the onsite works at Billen Cliffs.
Cultural burning is an important part of caring for country including Koala (Boorabee) habitat. In combination with bush regeneration, cultural burning can be a useful tool to control weeds and keep open forest country healthy. Marcus Ferguson will present on Jagun Alliance’s cultural burning work on Billen Cliffs and the wider region. Marcus Ferguson- Cultural Advisor Jagun Alliance. He is a respected historian and specialist cultural knowledge educator across the East Coast of Australia.
Richmond Landcare’s Koala Connect project aims to revitalise and connect koala habitats in the critical region north of Lismore. Koala Connect goes beyond traditional tree-planting initiatives, focusing on enhancing the quality and connectivity of existing koala habitats and educating the wider community about koala conservation. The project seeks to bolster the overall health and resilience of local koala populations, ensuring the enduring survival of this cherished species.
