Heart to Heart
YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND AN INFORMATION SESSION
ABOUT THE UPCOMING REFERENDUM FOR AN INDIGENOUS VOICE TO PARLIAMENT
ON SATURDAY 7 OCTOBER FROM 10.00-11.00AM
Please come along to inform yourself one week our from the referendum, to have your questions answered, and to have a chat over tea or coffee with other locals about the referendum.
Voting in a referendum is a significant responsibility, and we all want to make sure we make the right choice. But there has been a lot of white noise and misinformation about the proposal you will be considering. So how can we get accurate information, inform ourselves, and get our questions answered? Come along to this information session! This is an opportunity to gain some insights on the proposed role of the Voice in government, its particular importance to First Nations Australians, as well as the mechanics and meaning of the upcoming referendum.
This event has been organised by Heart to Heart, a volunteer group of students, staff and supporters from the Adelaide Law School. Heart to Heart’s purpose is to inform the public about the 2023 referendum on First Nations Constitutional Recognition through a First Nations Voice. We aim to provide independent, factual information on the Constitution, the referendum, the process that has led to The Voice proposal and the relationship between the Constitution and First Nations peoples.
The session will be presented by Anne Hewitt, an academic at the Adelaide Law School and Melanie Fuss, a lawyer with experience in the public and private sector here in SA, as well as a student from Adelaide Law School. We want to make sure everyone in the community has an opportunity to inform themselves, and get their questions answered, before voting on the 14th, so each vote is an informed one.
WHEN: 7 October 2023 from 10.00am. Please join us for a brief presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions, and continue the conversation over a cup of coffee or tea and a biscuit.
