Heartwood Presents: The Well Tree
Description
“Enchanting…. Spellbinding…. Modern myth making!”
Join Heartwood Trio for The Well Tree, an all-ages, participatory journey through storytelling and song that audiences call a deeply visceral experience of beauty, joy, truth and imagination. This original three-person musical tells the story of a young woman’s wild journeying and remembering of kinship, as she moves beyond the fog of isolation and shame to meet songbirds, snails and ancient trees, and travels through these unraveling times to find her way home.
Performed and sung by Heartwood’s members–Heidi Wilson, Sarina Partridge, and Willy Clemetson–they also run the “crankie”--an illuminated, papercut, hand-cranked scroll, which delightfully illustrates the story, and was created by papercut artist, Jennifer Jones. The audience will be invited in to sing pieces of the story. Bring your parents and your children, and let your bodies be filled with the magic of vocal harmony and live storytelling!
"The Well Tree is a luminous blend of exquisite music, breathtaking visuals, and soul-deep storytelling that radiates with the rare kindness, imagination, and creative generosity of the artists who bring this world to life." -Brooke Hardman Ditchfield, Circuit Arts Playhouse, Martha’s Vineyard
“The Well Tree works its magic through allegory, a thoughtful parable that winds its way into the deep heart space, where songs resonate with emotional velocity. Through its singing, we feel and know that the path toward global healing can and should be filled with beautiful reflection, joyful tears, creative action and love for the living planet. Like a fleeting dream of a long-lost connection, The Well Tree embeds itself into the subconscious and won’t let go.” -Hadestown Co-creator, Ben T. Matchstick
Doors open at 6:00 pm.
