Event description

A celebration of new contemporary classical works by pianists Heather Shannon (The Jezabels) and Rasa Daukus.

Sydney's Heather Shannon – best known as the keyboardist in the beloved art-pop band The Jezabels and now a composer – journeyed to remote Iceland for an artist residency to create a bold solo project: the atmospheric piano album Midnight Sun

"The landscape was so incredibly beautiful. It's quite overwhelming how sublime the nature is there, and the sunlit nights are disorienting. I think there was something about just how unfamiliar it was that helped me to get my ideas out on paper. The music reflects the nature that I was surrounded in, but also the solitude and the peace and quiet and being alone.”

Rasa
Daukus is a composer, pianist and sound artist, living on Ngunnawal country. Her practice explores eclectic approaches to minimalist, postclassical, ambient and soundscape genres, integrating music and sound with visual art, film, installation, dance and theatre. A keen collaborator, Rasa’s work regularly involves blending art forms and artist exchanges.
This work Iki is a collection of solo piano pieces explored over the past two years. Some dusted off and reimagined. Some created from scratch.

Ainslie Salon is presented by Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres with support from the ACT Government’s Amp It Up! funding initiative.
