Just married. Bored already.

Hedda and George Tesman arrive home from their honeymoon and Hedda is immediately unsatisfied with married life. Trapped, she attempts to fiercely control those around her in hopes of passion and excitement and watches as their lives (and her own) unravel.

One of Ibsen’s later plays, Hedda Gabler is a masterpiece of realism and psychological tragedy. The character of Hedda is considered to be one of the most famous dramatic roles in the western canon and is often compared to Hamlet in complexity and ambiguity of motive. Flock stages the play in a fast-moving adaptation, tailored to the intimate space of New London’s Shaw Mansion. Audience sits mere feet away, flies on the wall, as Hedda tears down her domestic cage. This will be Flock’s first Shaw Mansion production since last year’s lauded Jane Eyre and a return to Ibsen's work after the much more fantastical Peer Gynt in 2022.
