THE EVENT

Welcome to the third Hen House Open Night.

Wednesday 9 September 2020 at Stone & Chalk  

This unique cash and customer raising night for the third cohort of the Hen House Incubator Program will include pitches from each of the six Clutches,    a story from the second program and a message from the Chief Chook! 

Your ticket price of $40.00* will convert into three x $10 voting tokens. You vote with your voting tokens and the clutch(es) you vote for will get the sum total of your voting tokens to give them a financial kick start. 

You will also be able to buy drinks and nibbles from the bar. Hen House Merchandise and additional voting tokens @ $10.00 each will also be available for sale.

*Ticket is $40.00+$2.59 booking fee. Booking fee will be donated by Humanitix to a literacy program for young girls making your impact go even further)

Time and Tide Co will be an eclectic and intriguing multifunctional place that welcomes all who venture in, encourages them to stay and inspires them to return. Time and Tide Co is where:

  • artists, creators, makers and crafters can connect and establish or build their practice;
  • fine coffee and fabulous food will sooth the soul;
  • events and workshops will bring communities and businesses together;
  • co-working spaces and meeting rooms will be provided;
  • browsing pre-loved clothes and accessories as well as unique, new creations is encouraged; and
  • membership of a Library of Things will reduce the need to purchase new items

THE PROGRAM

Open Night will include a presentation from Chief Chook, Moira Were AM on the origins of the Hen House, followed by pitches from each of the fledgling enterprises. Instead of Sharks, the Clutches will all receive feedback from a panel of highly talented Australorps (named after a native breed of chickens who hold the world record for laying the most number of eggs). You will use your tokens to vote and let the clutches know if you could be a customer.

THE AUSTRALORPS

Matt Clemow
is the Director of Social Policy Solutions, which provides advice to Governments, non-Government and private sector organisations across Australia within the social and affordable housing, disability and broader social services sectors. He is also a Director of Housing Renewal Australia Oaklands Park, the nation’s first private family equity-led social housing renewal project, the Deputy Chair of the Committee for Adelaide and an alumnus (2016)  of the US Government’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

Rachel Kidwell founded TCPinpoint based on her 14 years of experience in property delivery.  TCPinpoint provides software as a service to property developers and owners to bring their people together to work.  As a founding member of ProptechSA (proptechsa.com.au) and recent graduate of the RealTechX program (https://tarongagroup.com/realtechx/)
Rachel's mission is to increase the awareness of proptech companies offering technologically innovative products and new business models for the property industry.

Stacey Thomas is the CEO of the Wyatt Trust, one of Australia’s oldest charitable foundations and is a supporter of the Hen House Incubator program. The Wyatt Trust aims to challenge inequality and eradicate poverty in South Australia. Stacey's previous roles have included leading the Fay Fuller Foundation to redesign their strategy to test long-term solutions to mental health challenges and running her own consultancy business working with non-profit organisations, philanthropy and values aligned businesses around Australia and beyond.

THE WINNERS

The new business to end the night with the most cash (tokens) and customers (you will be asked to indicate if you will be a potential customer), will be the winner of the Catherine Award. This award is named after Catherine Helen Spence who was President of the Board of the SA Co-operative Clothing Factory (1902-10) established and run by women. It was the first electric powered clothing factory in the State and was opened in Blyth Street, Adelaide. The business will win a $500 interest free loan. 

We will also be announcing the woman from the Incubator who best represented the spirit of co-operative values and principles. This award is the Dorothy and is named after Dorothy May Parsons. Secretary-Manager of the Hairdressers Co-operative in SA during the 1950s one of the largest coops with the most number of women as members. The winner of the Dorothy will win $250 interest free loan for their co-op.

THE COACHES

Amy Orange Amy is an award-winning social entrepreneur, thought leader and
impact collaborator with a passion for applying commercial practices and innovative models to solve complex social challenges. Amy’s current business is Fourth Sector Solutions where she provides consulting and coaching
services to organisations and emerging entrepreneurs. Amy is also a SA Social Procurement Lead for national intermediary Social Traders, a Co-Founder of Collab4Good, a former Founder of Harvest Fair, and a current member of the board of directors for Infoxchange, Incubator.Coop as well as Hen House Coop. Amy is also a mentor with New Venture Institute and FIXE. 

Dorothy Belperio is the Founder and Managing Director of three South Australian businesses, Health Connexion, Peer Connexion and Coordinating
Connexions. As a social entrepreneur, her focus is on leading change to
create social impact, through consultancy and profit-for-purpose mental
health and disability support businesses. Dorothy is an experienced trainer and facilitator, and a mentor for emerging and established leaders, through IML and FIXE. She is a Board member and Treasurer of the Hen House Coop, a Board member of Coop Incubator and of the World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation Australia.

Theresa Brown runs a social enterprise ‘Play it On’ recycling unwanted sporting equipment, rejuvenating it in Men’s Sheds and with disability groups and then sells it to help kids whose families can’t afford their sports club fees!
She also operates a consultancy business writing funding proposals, grants and strategies and assisting the development of social enterprises. She is a founding member of the South Australian Social Enterprise Council and is currently working with the writing team on the State Governments first Social Enterprise Strategy. Theresa also started up Northern Sound System – a youth hub engaging young people through music.

Tina Ferguson Tina has extensive experience in leadership and the delivery of digital capability in both State and Federal Governments. Tina’s strengths in user-centred design, data and innovation led to ‘outstanding public sector employee’ recognition by the Premier of South Australia. Tina has also been recognised for her leadership of the state's annual participation in the national GovHack open data competition and also as a finalist in the Women in Innovation Awards 2015 for the D3 Digital Challenge initiative.

THE HOST

Founder Moira Were AM will be our host. She has a lifelong practice of building equity and inclusion in everyday situations, public policy and commercial settings. Moira is a Director of Scope Global, an international project management company and a core team member of the leading Australian social change business Collaboration for Impact.  Moira was awarded an AM in 2019 in recognition of her contribution to social welfare, citizen participation and social entrepreneurship in Australia.

Support for participants in the Incubator program has been gratefully received from Tingari-Silverton Foundation, Wyatt Trust and the generosity of coaches, mentors, allies, partners and the wider Chooks SA community.
