Henry IV: The Follies of Falstaff at Tyee Wine Cellars
Event description
HARK! A TEMPEST?!
Dear patrons, let it be known that the show will go on, even if our fair valley is doused by a most unseasonable rain. As a traveling troupe used to performing in a variety of configurations, we will be able to adjust as circumstances warrant. Tyee Winery has both a lawn-side stage and a covered barn. If the weather is fair, we shall regale you upon the lawn; if the weather is foul, we shall all sit under the roof of the barn together. (And in either case, there will still be delicious wine.)
We do suggest bringing a lawn chair regardless, as there is limited seating onsite in the barn, and then you are assured to be comfortable no matter where we perform.
Make no ado about the rain, and we shall see thee on the morrow!
Merely Players Presents:
Henry IV: The Follies of Falstaff
By William Shakespeare
Adapted from Henry IV Parts One and Two
Saturday, August 17th at 6:00pm
Doors open at 5:00pm
Wacky drunken hijinks and tense political machinations trade off in this new conflated adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Henry IV Parts 1 and 2. King Henry IV of England is at his wit’s end with his firstborn son, Prince Henry (aka Hal). Instead of, ya know, learning how to rule a country, Hal instead spends his days hanging out with the notoriously witty drunkard and all-around scoundrel Sir John Falstaff and his merry band of borderline criminals. Meanwhile, rebellion is brewing—Harry Percy (nicknamed Hotspur because she has no chill) and her family are mustering an army to move against the King. Can Hal leave behind his wastrel ways in time to reclaim his country, his father’s respect, and his birthright? Or will Sir John Falstaff drag him down into a life of infamy, folly, and hilariously biting insults?
RATED: Parental Guidance (PG) for crude Shakespearean humor, depictions of alcohol use, sword fighting, and bloodless onstage deaths; may not be suitable for children under 10 years old.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
Merely Players is an actor-managed traveling Shakespeare company based in Corvallis, Oregon. We make collaborative theatre that can travel anywhere in the Central Willamette Valley. Our goal is to make the classic plays of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries as accessible, interactive, irreverent, fast-paced, and fun as they possibly can be. We accomplish this by going back to the basics with a small group of actors, sans sets, sans lights, sans modern theatrical bells and whistles, connecting on a deep and personal level with the audience, with each other, and with the playtexts themselves.
