Of course, there were tears.
There was homesickness and days when we wondered if we made the right decision.
We faced self-doubt.
We stumbled speaking a language that was not our own.
There were times we were made to feel like we didn't belong.

Sometimes, in the noise of settling in and starting over, we forget how extraordinary we truly are. We lose sight of the grit it took to get here.

Her Migrant Spirit is here to be that reminder.
We aren't here to give you something you lack; we are here to remind you that the brilliance, the drive, and the leadership you are looking for is already within you.

Changing the Narrative

For too long, the migrant story in New Zealand has focused on the lack. We are here to change that. We are shining a spotlight on the extraordinary contribution and the fire that drives us forward.

Her Migrant Spirit is a new storytelling series by Girl In Motion.

It is a collection of interviews with migrant women across Aotearoa. We aren’t just telling stories. We are building the collective of role models and the support network we wish we had when we first arrived.

We are doing this because visibility matters.

For too long, there have not been enough leaders who look like us or share our roots. We want every migrant woman to see these stories and feel that spark: "If she can do that—so can I."
