Event description

Conference sessions begin on Thursday morning, November 6, 2025 and run through mid-afternoon, Friday, November 7th. The registration fee of $450 (exclusive of any applicable fees and local taxes) includes all meals during the conference as well as conference materials.

This year's program includes presentations of interest to attorneys practicing real estate and construction law at higher education institutions and will include on-site presentations at Tulane University.

The HEREL Annual Conference is generally capped at around 50 participants to ensure a more intimate setting where you can meet and get to know colleagues from around the country, so register early to secure your spot!

Refund policy

HEREL is a success in large measure because our local hosts are willing to contract in the name of their institution for conference facilities, catering, hotel room blocks and other expenses. In doing so they assume the risk of financial losses that can result from reduced attendance. The HEREL Steering Committee has adopted this cancellation policy to help mitigate those risks and thus ensure that local hosts continue to step forward to make these conferences possible. Conference cancellations received by September 30, 2025, entitle registrants to a full refund (less $50 processing fee). Cancellation requests will not be accepted after September 30, 2025, but the conference materials will be made available to all registrants. Additionally, HEREL will accept substitutions that a registrant unable to attend identifies. Exceptions to the cancellation deadline will be made for personal emergencies and significant medical issues that prevent attendance. While we appreciate that unexpected client needs may make it difficult or impossible for registrants to attend, we are unable to honor refund requests based on these circumstances after the deadline date. All registrant substitutions and cancellation requests must be in writing and emailed to David Epstein at epstein@tulane.edu. Please note: Cancelling your conference registration does not affect your hotel reservation. To cancel or transfer your hotel reservation you must work directly with the conference center hotel.

WHAT IS HEREL?

Supporting Real Estate and Construction Lawyers in Higher Ed

Established in 2003 by lawyers from the University of Pennsylvania and Duke University, HEREL is an informal organization of higher education lawyers committed to providing networking and high quality CLE opportunities for attorneys who practice real estate and construction law at institutions of higher education. HEREL also welcomes participation by outside counsel who represent higher education institutions and by non-lawyer real estate professionals working in higher education.

The Higher Education Real Estate Lawyers Affinity Group

HEREL conferences attract real estate practitioners from the country’s leading higher education institutions, including Yale, Duke, the University of Pennsylvania, MIT, Stanford, the University of California System and others. The small-group setting of HEREL conferences, generally capped at 50 participants, and the large percentage of conference participants who return to the conference year after year create a level of camaraderie that allows colleagues to speak freely about issues and questions that, in a larger setting, might be more difficult.
