Gathering, making and yarning are key practices that uphold First Nations' values of sharing stories, building connections, healing and community care. With a focus on possum skin cloak making, this practical workshop with Aunty Matilda House will prioritise the sharing of culturally-significant knowledge and skills.
You will be able create your own possum skin art piece depicting your own story.

Places for the cloak-blanket (all day) workshops are limited so we are offering tickets to those that cannot make the whole day workshop to came and also be part of the event.

The 'Tour' tickets will enable the visitor to observe and listen to the process at different stages. They have been time allocated into four sessions so that we can manage the activities and the numbers of participants. The tour will include a guided journey through the Heritage listed building/gallery space and an opportunity to view the display information and art relating to this workshop and to join in the yarning by Aunty Matilda. There will also be an opportunity to paint your own story on a piece of possum skin to take away. If you wish to join in this painting activity we ask for a donation (on the day) to cover our costs.

As numbers are strictly limited we recommend you register for the event so as not to miss out.

The workshop is only available for 18 years and older.

Schedule of Events

9.30-10am (1/2 hour) Arrival and settling in
10-11am (1 hour) Welcome ceremony followed by morning tea
11-1pm (2 hours) Cutting of possum skins & stitching the possum skins together
1-2pm (1 hour) Break for lunch
2-4pm (2 hours) Depicting the stories onto the skins
4-4.30 (1/2 hour) Afternoon tea and wrap up
