Event description
In celebration of Black History Month and Black food culture, we invite you to the (2nd annual) Hey, Auntie! Gumbo Cooking Contest 2025.
Come to the Bayview Opera House to experience the 2025 Hey, Auntie! Gumbo Cooking Contest. The event brings together 14 home cooks and professional chefs from around the Bay Area to compete for the Hey Auntie crown! (Don't let the name fool you, "Uncles" who can cook a mean gumbo will also have a chance to compete.) Don't miss out on the "DoorDash Going Out" prize wheel giving away high value deals throughout the event!
RSVP is free but required. Tasting tickets can be purchased for $20 before the event ($25 day of). Your tasting ticket will allow you a taste of all of our competition gumbos and to vote for your favorites!
After the contest, come to the after party! Celebrate the contestants and our community 4:30 PM to close at Gumbo Social (5176 3rd St.)! $8 gumbos, $12 po-boys, lunch special all-day! Good vibes and fun!
