HEY Day: Advocacy and Activism

Who: LGBTIQA+ young people (12-25) and allies, AND workers in the youth and LGBTIQA+ sector

Celebrating Advocacy, Activism, and Community for LGBTIQA+ Young People in Victoria

LGBTIQA+ young people (12-25) and youth workers are invited to join us for HEY Day, a one-day event celebrating LGBTIQA+ young people and the advocacy work of the LGBTIQA+ sector in Victoria!

HEY Day is an annual day of learning, connecting, and celebrating the incredible work being done with and for LGBTIQA+ young people to improve their mental health and well-being outcomes across the state. In a time of increasing discrimination towards LGBTIQA+ identities, HEY Day is an opportunity to join in collective advocacy and highlight the amazing work being done in our communities to show our pride, love and support for queer youth.

This year, HEY Day will shine a spotlight on Round 14 of the HEY Grants, which will fund 13 community projects (including 8 Youth-Led initiatives!) with over $102,000. These projects are designed to foster connection, build community, and support the mental health and well-being of LGBTIQA+ young people, creating opportunities for youth leadership and to share pride in LGBTIQA+ identity.

At HEY Day, you'll have the chance to:

  • Learn from inspiring LGBTIQA+ young advocates and activists in a panel Q&A, exploring how small actions have big impact
  • Hear from government decision-makers their top tips for successful lobbying, and learn how to speak to MPs
  • Engage in workshops for LGBTIQA+ young people on sharing your lived experience, and a SMASH Transphobia advocacy workshop
  • Develop skills for youth workers in rights and safety in inclusive best practice, and engage in self-care skill building sessions
  • Connect with others in your community and build your support networks
  • Enjoy free food, queer joy, and the announcement of the Round 14 HEY Grant recipients!

HEY Day is an unmissable opportunity to connect, share, and be part of a movement that celebrates and empowers LGBTIQA+ young people here in Victoria.

Don’t miss out on this vibrant day of community, learning, and celebration! See you there!
