Welcome to the magic that is Higher Ground, no ordinary bass party.
At Higher Ground, we create a new world for you to explore through good tunes and art on a variety of levels!
We collaborate with Newys finest DJs, performance artists, and live artists, then set up an incredible display of lighting and decor to create the best dance floor vibes.
This is a dream project designed and curated by Jessica Cobourn of Alchemy of Arts & Mitch Watterson of Costa Sound.

DREAD MAIDEN: An alchemist of voyages steeped in deep, rolling basslines, euphoric sweetness and bone-rattling jungle beats, Dread Maiden takes inspiration for her aural journeys from her love of the ebb and flow of progressive metal, psychedelic rock journey music, and a deep love for dub and drum and bass, with the goal to manifest jungle and drum and bass mixes with an eclectic concoction of light and dark, high and lows. Originally from Cowra in country NSW AU and now residing in Mulubinba (Newcastle AU), she has a background in acoustic music and production and has been an avid supporter of the Australian drum and bass community for years. The 2020-2021 COVID lockdowns proved the best time for her to focus on her love of drum and bass and creating aural adventures, blending jungle, techy, dark minimal, half-time and liquid drum and bass, as well as exploring the wide spectrum of other bassy sub-genres. Dread Maiden co-hosted Sydney-based Orbital Radio show, Cabin Fever Sessions from late 2021 until early 2023 (when Orbital Radio closed its doors), alongside Cabin Fever boss-lady Tassone, and KreliaS, representing Newcastle AU DJ collective, Newy Bass Crew.

N3BULA: N3BULA is a familiar name within the electronic music scene here in Mulubinba, frequenting events such as Dekonstructed, Palace, Newy Bass Crew and Daydreaming. Besides playing regular events, Natalie has compiled a range of guest mixes and had airtime on Bondi Beach Radio & Orbital Radio (Sydney), 4ZZZ (Brisbane), and Mouthfull Radio (NZ) for the Fruit Blender mix series. Her sound has heavy bass influence but spans across a range of genres such as techno, electro, breaks, garage and dub.

ONEFIFTEEN: onefifteen is a project of the artist known as var!ant aka yObi from the NSW Hunter Valley. Since the initial right turn of flipping unsuspecting doof dance floors on their heads with dnb and bass in 2014, yObi spent a few years spinning at New Psycle, Royal Bass, Origins of Entropy and Sounds Psylly among others, pushing for a shift in the standard scope of sounds found at local bush parties. The isolation years were spent digging, collecting and honing his music collection and sound palate to becoming deep, dirty, dynamic and diverse. Keeping it fresh with obsessive attention given to all aspects of dnb, halftime, dubstep and experimental bass, onefifteen has something for any bass-head or sound freak to salivate at, whether banging or chill. With a strong focus on track selection and set curation, creating a consistent, flowing journey whilst maintaining necessary levels of low-end vibration and high-end distortion throughout, a onefifteen subset will have your face scrunching, your mind swirling and your butt wriggling.

VUDUU: Meet VUDUU - Progressive Electronica DJ/Producer. Newly moved to the Newcastle Region and ready to hit the scene with his love of Prog Psy, Glitch Hop, Trap and DNB Rollers to Neuro. Though dont be fooled as in his love for music first came when he started learning guitar at 12 guitar and was deep into Numetal, Hip hop, and Metalcore so you know he has the ear for heavy dark music with breaks and 4 on the floor goodness. Producing for 2 years he is soon to drop some music that is wildly different and ready to expand your mind and take you on a journey through multi genres with his VUDUU touch. Get your seat belt on and buckle up, he's about to take you for a ride!

MANIX: Co-creator of HIGHER GROUND EVENTS Manix is a true lover of dnb, bass house, psytrance, and everything in between. Manix's Forte and passion lives in a bass filled dance floor at the peak of the night. With 7 years club experience, 10 years at the doof, and countless hours behind the decks, Manix knows the recipe to max out your energy on any dance floor. You might have seen the hooded silhouette at MIND SUB events, burning seed, future forests and doofs around the Newcastle area.
Accompanied by the Sound System he built Costa Sound Systems , there is never a shortage of bass nor intensity.

CREATIVE CREATURE(S): Creative Creatures is founded by Bonnie Heather, with over 20 years choreography and dance experience. Through her passion for creating meaningful movement, she established the group in April 2019 as a contemporary dance collective. The creatures have performed at multiple festivals including Rabbits Eat Lettuce, , Elements, Earth Frequency, Happy Dayz & Bohemian Beatfreaks, Dragon dreaming, Esoteric and Orin aya. This led to Bonnie having the privilege to choreograph opening and closing ceremonies for many festivals, creating intentional ritual movement codes for the collective.

BEC AFIA: Bec Afia, Newy local, is back to bring you some hot fire hooping magic! As seen with super trio, Triple Double, Bec is back to bring you some more fiery action
MOONMOTH: is 23y/o residing in Newcastle, Australia and has been flowing with hoops since 2016 and recently had her first LED Hooping Performance for Art Valley 2023. She is also a DJ and Digital Artist, and appreciative of all things creative. M00NM0TH started hooping as a meditative practice and her years of flowing have created a unique style of incorporating illusion with her hoop to take you on a journey.
FLOCEAN: Born & raised in Newcastle, he has found a love for flow arts. Firstly playing with stones & finding balance, he then found the magical world of flow props & loves the flow state that they bring.
FLOETIC: Floetic uses elemental energy to create movement and light and accesses a flow state to entrance himself and those who watch him.

LIVE ART// JESSICA. CO: Is the founder of Alchemy of Arts and DJs under the CLAWFOOT_ alias. As the co-creator of Higher Ground Bass & Arts events, Jessica has curated mini-festivals that transcend traditional boundaries. These immersive experiences blend the pulsating beats of bass music, live art, captivating installations, and mesmerizing performances. In these inclusive and safe spaces, Jessica invites people from all walks of life to express themselves freely and find connections through their shared love of art and music. For this HG edition, you will find Jess Painting up a storm at the back of the dance floor.
