The Hikutaia School PTA is excited to announce our upcoming Fishing Competition, to be held on Saturday, 22nd and Sunday 23rd November 2025 with over $5000 worth of prizes up for grabs. All FUNDS RAISED this year will go directly towards building a new junior PLAYGROUND at Hikutaia School - Creating a safe, exciting space for our youngest tamariki to play and learn.

The Hikutaia Snapper Classic Fundraiser is an exciting event that combines the thrill of fishing with the spirit of community support. Typically held in the picturesque setting of Hikutaia, the event invites fishing enthusiasts from all around to compete in catching the largest snapper. Participants not only enjoy a day out on the water but also contribute to a worthy cause, as the proceeds will go towards building a new junior playground for Hikutaia school. Whether you're a seasoned fisherman or a novice, the Hikutaia Snapper Classic promises a memorable day filled with fun, friendly competition, and the chance to make a positive impact in the community.

FISHING COMPETITION RULES
TICKETS |
These are purchased online via link on Humantix
Online tickets are allocated a number in our computer generated system.
Physical Tickets are available at Kopu Hunting & Fishing, Paeroa Marine & Cycle and the Hikutaia School office.
When you weigh your fish, use your name as a reference and it will be recorded on the entry spreadsheet.
Child Ticket is the age of 13 years and under at the date of the ticket purchase. You must purchase the correct ticket category for your age group. If you have the incorrect ticket for your actual age you will not be eligible for any of the prizes which include Mystery Weight, Adult and Junior Prizes. Your purchase ticket number will only allow you to be drawn for the spot prizes.
RULES |
No longlines, no set nets.
Fishing area is open with no restrictions.
Snapper must be over 32cm and only 2 fish per angler to be weighed in.
Fish weighed in whole (not gutted, not gilled).
No frozen fish will be weighed.
All fish presented must arrive at weigh-in in saleable condition preferably on ice. Weigh masters decision is final.
Each fish can be entered into one category only, appropriate to age/category.
The angler must present their own fish to the "weigh-in" station.
Adult and Junior category fish presented are all eligible for Mystery Prize.
In the event of a tie, the first fish presented for "weigh-in" shall win.
Only one spot prize per ticket will be awarded, regardless of fish presented for "weigh-in"
No BYO alcohol on the premises for prize giving.
Weigh in closes at 4pm. Entrants must in line at the weigh station (Hikutaia School) by the cut off time.
Fishing competition start time is 12:01 AM Saturday 22nd November 2025.
Weigh Masters decision in final.
If the competition is canceled due to weather a postponement date will be announced prior to the event.
Ticket sales are non refundable.
PURCHASE of a competition ticket, constitutes acceptance of the rules and regulations of the Hikutaia Snapper Classic and contestants agree to abide by the committee and Weigh Masters final decisions.

WEIGH IN and PRIZEGIVING INFORMATION |
To be held at Hikutaia School. Weigh in from 2 - 4pm followed by prizegiving.
Entrants must be at prize giving to receive prizes and spot prizes.
Entrants in the CHARTER BOAT RAFFLE do not need to be present to receive prize.
Food and drinks for sale. Bar will be open for 2pm. Join us for sausages, hot meat buns, mussel fritters, quick fire raffles and more.
