Hillween (BOUSSI SWANA Queer night)

يحل علينا الهالوين في كل عام ليذكرنا بأفعال المستعمرين مع السكان الأصلانيين و يترك في فمنا مذاقا من المرار و اللا-انبهار .

و قد فكرنا كثيرا في بوسي عن ماذا نفعل غير استذكار غوليات العرب وما اكثرها من امك خالتك عماتك اعمامك ابوك والامبرالية والاشتراكية والزعيم وابن الزعيم ومرت الزعيم وعمة الزعيم وخالتو وعيلته والوزير والمدير العام والست عفاف في وزارة الاتصالات والواسطة والمحسوبية والمنقذ الابيض ومشروع التخضير و والمناكير والنسوية والذكورية ونوال السعداوي وهدى الشعراوي والاخواني والسيارة عالرصيف وطوابير الفيزا وتكاليفها والعدس والملفوف والثوم والبصل وحرف p b.

ورأينا بعد بحث طويل ونقاش كبير أن الحل الأمثل هو اتباع ما يقوله المثل الشعبي العريق في عدم فرش القبور بمخداتنا والنوم فيها لكي لا نستدعي الكوابيس.

وبعد الكثير من المطاوشات والقليل من المناورات واستدعاء الأجداد الأموات منهم والأحياء فقد قررنا ان نحتفي بهذا العام بالحلوين في حياتنا وذاكرتنا وثقافتنا ( او كما يقول الأمريكان الديفا)، مجانين الحارة، مثليات المدينة و رموز الخلاعة والدلاعة، كل من هو على هامش المجتمع لأن المجتمع غير قادر على وضعه في قالب، المشاغبين والمشاغبات، الراقصات والطنطات و العمات والأعمام في بلاد الواق واق الذين نسمع عن غزواتهم ونجاحاتهم وندرك أنهم اختاروا صقيع المنفى لأن الوطن لوثه الاستعمار.
ندعوكم لتكونوا ديفا هذه الليلة ولتفتشوا في ثقافتكنم أيا كانت بحثا عن النماذج القوية التي قاومت الاستعمار وحاربت الاستبداد ولم تقف مع الفاشية، عن من كانوا حديث المجتمع والناس والجرائد لأنهم قالوا لا في وجه من قالوا نعم، عن من لا نعرف من أرشيف المثلية الطويل والمليء بالدراما و النزاع.

لن يكون هناك من يحاكمكم في اختياراتكم الا ان قررتم اختيار طريق الاستشراق؛ ابتعدوا عن ياسمين او علاء الدين او الاربعين حرامي وكل مقولات ديزني ولا داعي لاحضار الدم ففي الحياة ما يكفينا من رعب.

إن كنتم من الأصدقاء البيض وقررتم المجيء ففكروا كثيرا وحاولوا الابتعاد عن منظومة الرجل الأبيض!

Every year, Halloween returns to remind us of America's extraordinary ability to turn absolutely anything into a commodity.

So at BOUSSI, our Palestinian and Arab-led queer night for SWANA, QTIPOC, diasporic siblings and allies, we gathered to discuss a very serious question:

How do we exorcise the ghouls haunting us??

You know, your auntie's comments (advice). Your father's entire side of the family. The Colonial Entity. Check Points. Imperialism. Capitalism. The za3eem. The za3eem's son. The za3eem's wife. The za3eem's aunt. The za3eem's wife's aunt. Ms Afaf from HR. Nepotism. White saviours. Greenwashing. Pinkwashing. White feminism. Toxic masculinity. Visas. The Home Office (if you see this, we love you). Cars parked on pavements. The letter P (if you’re Arab).

After extensive thinking and heated debate, we reached a conclusion.

Why make our beds in the graveyard and complain about the nightmares? (Arab expression)

This year, we're celebrating THE HILWEEN. حلوين. The beautiful ones. The cuties, the divas, the darlings, the huns, the impossible aunties, scandalous poets, rebellious ancestors and cultural legends. The ones whose songs played in your parents' kitchens, whose films you watched growing up, whose portraits hung in the living room, whose names still start arguments at family gatherings.

So think: icons, legacies, legends, proto-queers, the revolutionary, the outrageous, the impossible, the adored, the unbearable, the troublemakers, the rebels and glorious headaches who live rent-free in our hearts. The ones we adore, argue about, and occasionally wish would shut up.

BOUSSI is rooted in Arab camp, but the drama is hardly ours alone.

So come and bring on your Umm Kulthum, Warda, Huda Sha'arawi, Noor Jehan, Rekha, Abu Nuwas, Ahmed Shawqi in drag, Rosa Luxemburg, Constance Markievicz’s, or your tayta (grandma) who terrorised everyone.

And to our white comrades and allies, bring us your heretics, queer ancestors, class traitors and national embarrassments. The ones who made the establishment deeply uncomfortable. Drag them up, make them ridiculous. We want your imagination, not your empire. 😉

We're not here to police your costume, but we do have a few boundaries.

We're here for complicated icons, not colonial nostalgia, fascist cosplay or turning oppression into a punchline. No Orientalist funny business. No Aladdin, Ali Baba and his forty thieves. No blood, no gore, no racist caricatures, and no using real people's suffering as a costume joke.

And because the real monsters aren't always wearing costumes, this BOUSSI is also a fundraiser for Thousand 4 £1000 and the Brighton Says YES campaign.

Women and families seeking asylum face being moved away from Brighton as the Home Office plans to close the hotel where they're staying. Their friends, communities and support networks are here.

Thousand 4 £1000 and local community groups are raising money to help keep our neighbours safely housed in Brighton, covering rent, bills and basic living costs.
