From the construction of Sir Thomas Mitchell's 1832 Great Western Road when he first proposed the village, to the first land grant given to Pierce Collits who built Hartley's first building, the Royal Garter Inn, to the construction of the Hartley Court House and the subsequent village that grew around it, learn how from great promise, Hartley was to be left behind in the development of the Colony and become one of the best preserved Colonial villages in Australia today.
