Historic Sandown - Return Of The Thunder 2025
Event description
This year’s Sandown Historics, sponsored by Penrite, Shannons, Equity-One and Cooldrive, will attract a strong lineup of true Historic cars from the ‘20s to the ‘80s in a three-day bonanza of exciting motor sport action. This year celebrating 100 Years of Ford in Australia with a display of Ford Racing through the years live on track.
Also, this year’s event will feature a special Tourist Trophy race for open sports cars, celebrating the Moomba Tourist Trophy race at Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit in 1955.
Sandown always attracts a strong interest from the smaller, but very nimble Formula Fords; a category that has been the nursery class for so many of the top Grand Prix drivers. These exciting little open wheelers are always a feature of the program.
Touring car fans are in for a treat, and the ‘tin top’ action promises to be fast and furious in a series of racing and super sprints. Many of the great cars from the past, as well as the tribute cars, will be on hand to rekindle memories of the titanic battles seen at Sandown over the years. Minis, Holdens, Fords, Chryslers and Jaguars will all be competing, and many spectators and cars will be on hand to celebrate the memorable 60 years of Ford’s iconic Mustang.
Adding to the spectacle will be a huge display from many Victorian club cars, involving more than 300 desirable classic cars. Their proud owners will have them on show for the public to enjoy on the concourse, adjacent to the main grandstand.
Trade stands, food outlets and off-track displays are added bonuses, and unlike modern day motor sport, mixing with these historic cars and their enthusiastic drivers makes historic racing a truly memorable experience.
There’s something for everyone of all ages at this year’s Sandown Historics. Everything is conveniently located at Sandown Park, with free access to the pits and the grandstand, where excellent viewing of the trackside action can be enjoyed.
Come along and be part of it!
