Historical & Ecological Ramble
Event description
🚶♂️ About the Ramble
Step back in time and wander through Warkworth’s history and ecology with this guided walking event along the Mahurangi River. Over two hours, you’ll be led by knowledgeable locals through nine fascinating stops — from kauri bush tales to steamboats, lime kilns, pest control, and the stories of early settlers. Along the way, you’ll discover the river’s role as the beating heart of the town, past and present.
The walk begins at Shoesmith Reserve, follows the river downstream, and ends at Lucy Moore Memorial Park — where we’ll round things off with a sausage sizzle and engaging displays from Forest & Bird and the Warkworth Museum.
This event is being held twice, so you can choose a date that works for you.
