The Myrtles, Goyder and Muecke – history in houses

Price $5 AUD Get tickets

Event description

In this illustrated talk by Lyn O’Grady, we explore the timeless power of bricks and mortar. Beyond construction, these historical homes serve as reminders of the past, enabling the retelling of stories.

The Myrtles was built in 1880 for Hugo Muecke on land once owned by GC Hawker and then GW Goyder. Other owners included the Hursts, Waterhouses, Vercos, Myers, Jimmy Martin, and The Wilderness School, all of whom have interesting stories too.

This large residence is significant for its association to Hugo Carl Emil Muecke who after commissioning Daniel Garlick to design the house lived here for around thirty-seven years. It was also associated with the early development of Wilderness School.
