Historic Mining & Nature Discovery Walk
Event description
Take a tour with Andrew Chapman our local Zoologist and president of the Ravensthorpe Historical Society.
Meet the bus at the Ravensthorpe Town Hall @ 8:45 a.m. You will be bused to the starting point. The walk will be starting at 9:30 a.m. from Ethel Daw lookout (sometimes listed as Desmond Lookout) taking in the Ravensthorpe Range ridge, you will be guided into the manganese adit which is a tunnel like cutout. Not recommended for those who do not like confined dark spaces.
We will continue to walk along, taking in a section of the Ravensthorpe to Hopetoun Heritage Railway Trail, where you will discover some interesting plant species.
This is categorised as a Grade 4 walking track, approximately 4 km in length and will take approximately 4 hours.
There is a section on this walk that has steep descent on uneven gravel (about 300 metres), walking sticks are useful.
Where to meet: Ravensthorpe Town Hall
Time: 8.45 a.m.
What to Bring: Water, snacks, lunch, camera, binoculars, sunscreen, and, insect repellant. A head torch is useful for when you enter the adit. Walking sticks would also be useful.
Bee Aware: If you have an allergy to bees make sure you have antihistamines and/or an epipen Please advise the leader of your allergy and location of the epipen?
Wear: Ankle supporting closed in walking shoes, suitable clothing for bush walking and all weather events.
