Friday, 15 May - Stravinsky's Soldier's Tale
Friday 4 Sept - Cherry Blossoms
Friday 13 Nov - Pascoe Awards Finalists' Concert
Our Artistic Director, Myee Clohessy, has carefully curated four exceptional concert programs to enrich our local community's cultural scene. Presented at the Bowral Memorial Hall, which offers excellent acoustics and a welcoming atmosphere, each concert is crafted to inspire and uplift audiences of all ages.
The series launched in February with Australian Prisms, featuring our brilliant 2026 Eva Pascoe Award-winning harpist, Paul Nicolaou, alongside pianist Andrew Rumsey, cellist Catherine Barnett, and violinist Myee Clohessy. Their program celebrated seven award-winning Australian composers whose music was as varied and colourful as a rainbow's hues, highlighting why these living composers are regarded as national treasures.
In May, HMCollective delved into the 1918 theatrical world of Stravinsky's Soldier's Tale. This dramatic performance included narration by Maree Tynan, acting by Andrew Forbes as the Soldier, and Quincy Page as the Devil, along with five talented dancers from Whiteley College, and a trio comprising clarinettist Alexandra Donaldson, pianist Luke Bowen (our 2024 Eva Pascoe Award recipient), and our violinist/Artistic Director, Myee Clohessy. This concert was SOLD OUT a week before the event, which shows the wonderful support Highlands Music Collective has in the Highlands. Thank you!
With the arrival of spring in September, the concert Cherry Blossoms will feature soprano Alison Robertson with the Zephyr Singers, alongside pianist Lisa Kawai, cellist Catherine Barnett, and violinist Myee Clohessy. Cherry blossoms, with their delicate pink petals and fleeting bloom, symbolise beauty, new beginnings, and the transience of life. Known as Sakura in Japan, the cherry blossom holds profound significance and has inspired many composers. Closer to home, we have commissioned our local composer Oscar Dunn-Luck to write a work inspired by our own significant and beautiful Cherry Tree Walk winding through Bowral.
The most significant event of the year is the annual Pascoe Awards Finalists' Concert (kindly sponsored by Arts National Bowral District), held annually in November. This concert showcases six exceptional young musicians, aged 14 to 24, who have a connection to the Southern Highlands and surrounding regions. On the night, one musician will be announced as the recipient of the $3000 Eva Pascoe Award, which includes opportunities to perform chamber music with HMCollective in our 2027 Concert Series.
