HMCollective presents 'Stravinsky's Soldier's Tale'
Description
Stravinsky's Soldier's Tale
In May, HMCollective will delve into the 1918 theatrical world of Stravinsky's Soldier's Tale, a compelling fusion of chamber music, theatre, and storytelling.
Written for a small ensemble and narrator, this old Russian folktale follows a soldier on leave from the army who trades his violin for a magic book that reveals the secrets to becoming rich and foretells the future. He soon discovers, however, that he has made a deal with the devil and that money does not bring happiness.
Stravinsky originally wrote the score for seven instruments to make it easy to take the production on tour. HMCollective, however, will perform Stravinsky's Trio version for violin, clarinet, and piano, which draws listeners into the story’s unfolding tension. Spoken word, music and dance intertwine throughout, creating a theatrical concert experience that is playful, haunting, and deeply human.
This dramatic performance will include narration by Andrew Forbes, dancers from Whiteley College, and a small ensemble comprising clarinettist Alexandra Donaldson, pianist Luke Bowen (HMCollective's 2024 Eva Pascoe Award recipient), and Artistic Director/violinist Myee Clohessy.
Don't miss this unique concert experience, never before staged in the Southern Highlands!
