Calling all people interested in Food and Nutrition!

🍏🌟 Join us in person or online for a Community Conversation about Food & Nutrition Research! 🌟🍎

Help shape the future of food and nutrition research in the Hunter New England region by sharing your thoughts, experiences, and ideas on this important health topic. See below for the full program for this event hosted by the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) Food and Nutrition Research Program.

When: 9.30AM for a 10:00 AM start to 12:30 PM, May 1st 2024. The session is followed by a complimentary lunch and optional Barefoot Bowls from 12.30pm – 1.30pm.

Where: Patricia Room, Club Charlestown (Bowling Club), 5 Lincoln Street, Charlestown. Free and accessible parking is available under the club.

Program for the day:  

Session 1

10:00-10:05  Welcome and Acknowledgement of Country

10:05-10:20  Overview of the HMRI Food and Nutrition Research Program and the value of community engagement; presented by Program Leaders Laureate Professor Clare Collins and Professor Tracy Burrows

10:20-10:35 Acknowledgement of Lived Experience by Elliot Waters; Everymind Lived Experience Advisory Group Member. Elliot will then share his experiences as a community member engaged in health-related research

10:35-10:50  Insights into community engagement in the HMRI F&N Research Program with Associate Professor Melinda Hutchesson

10:50 – 11:00 Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about the morning presentations.

11:00-11:15 Short break

Session 2

11:15 – 12:15 Interactive workshop facilitated by the HMRI Community and Consumer Involvement Team on:

  • Reflections on the morning session. Participants share what they learned.
  • Discuss ideas and strategies for improving community engagement in food and nutrition research.

12:15-12:30  Summary of the morning and future directions, main event concludes.

12:30 to 1:30  Lunch

All participants are warmly welcome to stay for complimentary lunch, barefoot bowls and networking.

1:30 Event concludes.
